How To Buy Women's Motorcycle Helmets

Women's Motorcycle Helmets

Some states require that motorcycle riders wear helmets.  If you live in one of these states, you will be pulled over by the police and ticketed without one on.  Women’s motorcycle helmets are required, too, even if they are riding on the back.  This is true in states that don’t require helmets as well if the driver has had his or her motorcycle license for less than a year.  Many people are unaware of this law in states that don’t require a helmet and many tickets are given out because of it.

There are three types of women’s motorcycle helmets to choose from.  The open face helmet, or ¾ helmet.  This is a helmet that covers the top of the head, the ears, and the back of the head down to the neckline, with a clear plastic or acrylic face mask covering the entire front of the face.

The half helmet only covers the top of the head and has straps that extend below the chin to hold it on.  These helmets are reminiscent of the helmets worn in the biker icon movie Easy Rider.

The modular helmet is a full helmet that looks similar to a racing helmet.  This is the same as the ¾ helmet except that it has helmet covering the chin area as well, with the shield affixed within the helmet in front of the face.

Any of these three types of helmets are acceptable according to the law, and for women’s motorcycle helmets, they are quite appealing, too.  You can buy a helmet to match your bike or to match your jacket.  You can buy a matching set of ladies and men’s helmets.

You don’t have to break the bank when buying women’s motorcycle helmets.  You can, of course, go for the Harley Davidson full modular helmet for $475.  But if that is a bit out of your range, Suzuki offers a wide range of helmets (over 1,200 styles) from about $40 for a nice one.  That’s cheap compared to the Harley helmet.  You can find one here to match just about any jackets, except a Harley jacket.  You won’t want to be caught with a Suzuki helmet if you’re riding a Harley.  Bikers, you know what I’m talking about.

Another option is to negotiate the helmets in with the sale of your new bike.  Buying a bike is similar to buying a car, you have to know how to get what you want and negotiation is the key.  Many bike dealers offer helmets with the sale of their bikes without even asking for it, but if they don’t, it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Ladies, buying a helmet is just as important as the rest of your gear.  You want to look good in it.  But more importantly, make sure it fits correctly and is comfortable, especially if you’re in the driver’s seat.  Don’t just assume it is okay; have your helmet checked by a professional for the proper fit.  Once you have your jacket and bike, shopping for women’s motorcycle helmets is the final step to getting on the road.
