Women's Motorcycle Chaps - Look The Part

Women’s motorcycle chaps are partial leggings that fit over the jeans and tie on.  These are similar to something you might see a cowboy wearing in an old John Wayne movie.  Chaps are made of leather, suede or lambskin and are typically black or some shade of brown, but some are colored to match the personality of the biker.

Ladies chaps can be found at most biker shops or Harley Davidson stores and leather stores such as Wilson’s Leathers who sells only leather apparel.  You may also find chaps at the more popular fashion shops like energie or Remy, but it’s not likely.  Biker apparel, women’s or men’s, is not something that is going to be considered ‘in style’, at least not with the crowd that you will see reading Vogue.

Women’s motorcycle chaps have little purpose other than to look good and to protect your legs from some nasty scrapes during a crash or fall from a bike.  For the most part, though, they are worn because they look good, they make a statement about who the woman is and what she is all about, and they draw attention to the woman and her bike.  Even women bikers want to turn heads, although they may act like they don’t care.

Women’s motorcycle chaps are more popular then men’s chaps.  This could be for many reasons, but I think it has much to do with chaps being a fashion statement and many men, particularly bikers, are not that interested in fashion.  Yes, their jackets have to look good and they need to look good on their bikes, but that’s about all they typically care about.  Women need to look good on and off the bike, but when she is off the bike, her fashion statement still needs to portray a mental picture of her on it.

Women’s motorcycle chaps usually run about $200 or more, but you can find them on clearance before the fall when the new lines are about to release for as little as $80.  If you are lucky you may find a wholesale outlet with good chaps, but be careful because even buying at wholesale or on clearance, you still want good quality chaps.  Any leather you purchase is an investment and should last you for years.  Buying cheaply made, faux leather chaps will be disappointing when they fall apart or start to crack and look like plastic after a few months.

Women’s motorcycle apparel is meant to make a statement.  Wearing leathers is not about being warm in cold weather, although it certainly doesn’t hurt in that aspect.  Leathers, including chaps, pants, jackets, and even tops and bandanas are an important part of the whole biker look.  Your leathers say about you that you are a real biker and willing to invest your time and money into looking the part.  Now, the question is, do you act like one?  That’s a whole ‘nother subject.  Whether or not you act like a biker, if you want to look the part, go out and find a pair of women’s motorcycle chaps.
